MILITARY ORDINARIATE CELEBRATES CHRISM MASS

The Military Ordinariate of Kenya held Chrism Mass at St Peter & Paul Cathedral at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, on Thursday, 21 March 2024. The Mass was presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Meru Rt. Rev Salesius Mugambi assisted by Military Ordinariate Apostolic Administrator (Monsignor) Fr. John Njeru.

The Bishop led the Military Ordinariate gathered from all KDF Formations/Units in renewing their priesthood vows, a crucial event in the church calendar. He also presided over the blessing of the oil of the sick and the oil of the catechumens as well as the consecration of the oil of the Chrism.

While addressing clergy and faithful, Bishop Mugambi mentioned the renewal of priests’ vows as a critical element of spiritual service, challenging them to jealously guard their fidelity and faith in Christ. He urged the congregation to ensure continuous prayers, not only for the clergy but for each other and the church. This message was echoed by Apostolic Administrator Monsignor Lieutenant Colonel (Fr) John Njue.

Bishop Mugambi also paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla at his office.

Chrism Mass is held annually by the Catholic church. The event encompasses the celebration of the gift of ordination, which entails renewal of the vows for all priests as well as thanksgiving/blessing for the gift of the oils.
