CS DUALE HOLDS BILATERAL TALKS WITH UK HIGH COMMISSIONER

The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Aden Duale has today held bilateral talks with the British High Commissioner to Kenya His Excellency Mr. Neil Wigan who paid him a courtesy visit to his office at the Defence Headquarters.

The CS noted that Kenya and the United Kingdom (UK) have continued to enjoy strong bilateral ties and have partnered extensively in various sectors among them tourism, trade, defence and security and counter-terrorism.

He observed that the two countries have a vibrant Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) that was ratified by the National Assembly in April 2023 which has enabled the existence of the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) in Laikipia County.

Hon. Duale expressed Kenya’s gratitude for the continued support of the UK in various military activities and programmes including joint training and exercises, military hardware, and development of the Kenya Navy Marines (Special Forces Squadron) among others.

Kenya seeks to collaborate with the UK in various strategic areas including high-level visits, capacity building of Communication Information Systems (CIS) defence research and development, climate security, courses and exchange programmes.

Hon. Duale said that Kenya looks upon the UK for more support in enhancing the capacity of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to enhance their continued contribution to regional peace, security and stability owing to her position as an anchor State in the region.
