Defence Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru has reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry’s leadership to support the taskforce established to formulate a policy on achieving an Integrated Defence Workforce for both the uniformed and non-uniformed staff. The PS hailed the taskforce for the work done so far saying the process is now at a critical point where they should benchmark with other countries to draw some lessons on how they have managed to integrate their defence workforce.

“We are delighted by the progress made so far. As you embark on international benchmarking, make the visits fruitful and helpful for the Ministry by helping us know what needs to be done to attract and retain the civilian component and at the same time draw a clear career progression path for them,” said the PS.

He maintained that the leadership has adopted some urgent recommendations that can be implemented even before the policy is formulated to improve the welfare of the staff working in different military establishments across the country.

His sentiments were echoed by the Secretary Administration Mr. Boniface Wambua who noted that a lot of progress has been done adding that the remaining work should be expedited to have the policy in place for the benefit of the civilian component.

The Director of Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) Dr. Lilian Nzavi thanked the PS and the entire MoD leadership for the unwavering support adding that the team remains committed to achieving their mandate and the set objectives.
