CONCERTED EFFORT TO INCREASE THE FOREST COVER IN JKUAT
Taking care of our environment has become one of the key requirements for every citizen. In this regard, soldiers from Moi Air Base (MAB) in partnership with Kenya Space Agency (KSA) participated in a tree planting exercise at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Juja on 25th April 2023.
The exercise drew personnel from MAB; Headquarter Wing, Helicopter Wing and Transport Engineering Wing who were led by Commanding Officer Headquarter Wing, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Kahindi.
The team was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs Mr. Robert Kinyua who was standing in for the Vice Chancellor. He was grateful to Kenya Defence Forces for always supporting them .
Speaking during the event, Mr. Kinyua stressed on the importance of planting trees to both humans and the whole biodiversity.
“As an institution, we are working on the President’s mission of having 15 billion new trees by the year 2032. Thank you for the 3000 seedlings for it is going to increase the number of trees in our farm,” he said.
Lt Col Kahindi expressed his gratitude to the whole team and encouraged the JKUAT fraternity to take care of the seedlings planted.
“We have planted this trees and I urge you to take good care of them so that next time we come we find them flourishing. We did this in 2020 and we are going to come back again,” he reitareted.
On his part, Acting Deputy Director Human Resource Management and Administration KSA, Mr. Alfred Ombima emphasised on the importance of trees to the climate.
“As far as research is concerned climate is a key factor to the environment and trees play a big role to it. So I would like to encourage each one of you to embrace the habit of taking care of the environment,” he added.
Present during the exercise were MAB Officers and Service Members, KSA representatives, JKUAT staff members and students.
