‘USHIRIKIANO IMARA’ 2024 COMES TO AN END.

The Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, accompanied by the Secretary General East African Community, Ms. Veronicah Mueni joined other General officers and dignitaries from East Africa Community (EAC) partner states in the culmination of the 13th East Africa Community Field Training Exercise (FTX) ‘Ushirikiano Imara 2024’ at Rwanda Military Academy (RMA) Gako, Rwanda.

The transnational event was ornamented by Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Mr. Juvenal Marizamunda, who congratulated the participants for their professionalism, dedication and solidarity in achieving the mission objectives.

“This year’s exercise serves as testament of our shared determination and enhanced interoperability in consolidation of security efforts, which will see a strengthened trust and friendship among the member states.”

On her part, EAC Secretary General, Ms. Mueni acknowledged the importance of the joint exercises in consolidating trust and cohesion in defending common interests among the member states.

The dignitaries were given a tour on the Kenyan Contingent camp set up, and brought to date on the activities undertaken by KENCON during the exercise.

This year’s momentous military exercise hosted by the Rwanda Defence Forces, aimed at bringing together participants from various nations to enhance readiness and interoperability of EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces, Police, Civilian Components and other stakeholders in responding to complex and multidimensional security challenges.

The Exercise was based on a hypothetical East African State of KANGOMA, which was affected by a political crisis, hence focusing on Peace Support Operations, Counter Terrorism, Counter Piracy and Disaster Management.

The FTX is an annual event, designed based on Peace Support Operations (PSO), Counter Terrorism (CT), Counter Piracy (CP) and Disaster Management (DM). This collaborative effort aims to enhance readiness, foster cooperation, and equip participants with essential skills for their roles in maintaining peace and security.

Present during the event was Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Fredrick Leuria, Senior Officers from member states, Officers and service members.
