The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), through the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Education Branch, launched a four-day chess training program on 17th December 2024 at Moi Forces Academy in Mombasa. The program targets KDF-sponsored schools in the Coast Region and is designed to equip teachers with essential chess knowledge and teaching strategies to nurture the game within their schools.
Teachers from Mariakani Primary, Kenya Navy Comprehensive School, Moi Forces Academy Boys, and Moi Forces Academy Girls participated in the training. This initiative emphasizes the importance of chess in developing critical thinking, strategic planning, and cognitive skills among both teachers and students. The ultimate goal is to prepare participants for an inter-school chess competition among KDF-sponsored schools.
The program also reflects KDF’s ongoing commitment to promoting extracurricular excellence and academic growth through sports.
