COLONEL ALEXANDER KIPKOECH KIPROP

Colonel Alexander Kipkoech Kiprop was appointed the Director in the Directorate of Military Veterans (DMV) on 4th September 2023 and serves as the second Director in the newly established Directorate in the KDF after a one year stint of the first Director, Brigadier Jacob O Ondieki. The new directorate was assented to on the 6th of June 2022 by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, upon Passage of the Military Veterans Bill 2013 by the National Assembly.

Col Alexander K. Kiprop joined the Kenya Defence Forces on 2nd Sep 1992 as an Army Cadet and was commissioned as an officer in the rank of 2nd Lt on 26th November 1993. He was posted to 78 Tank Battalion in Isiolo, the Kenya Army Armoured Corps (KAAC) and was trained an an Armour Young Officer, Troop Commander and later as an Intelligence Officer and also as a Protocol Officer among other career courses.

Col A K Kiprop has served in a number of KDF Institutions in his career some of which are in Regimental, Command, Administration, Protocol, Instructional and Staff capacities. Key among the positions held are as a Troop Commander, Squadron Second in Command, Unit Adjutant, Operations Officer Eastern Command Ops Cell, Aide De Camp (ADC) to the Deputy Army Commander, SOIII Production at DSC now (JCSC), Officer Commanding (OC) Officer Cadet School (OCS) at the then AFTC, now KMA, Staff Officer Training (SOII Trg) OCS and thereafter Aide De Camp (ADC) to HE the late Retired Second President of the Republic of Kenya.

In July 2021, Col A.K. Kiprop was appointed the first Commandant of the level four Eldoret Regional Hospital (ERH) overseeing the construction and later operationalization of the facility upon its completion and inauguration on the 1st July 2022 by H.E The President and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces. After successfully overseeing the task of putting structures in place for the functioning of the hospital, Col A. K. Kiprop was posted to the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Nakuru as the Senior Directing Staff (SDS) Amour before being re-assigned to the Defence HQs (DHQ) Compensation and Welfare (C&W) as the Col C&W, a position he held until he was appointed Director in the Directorate of Military Veterans at the Defence HQs (DHQ).

Col A. K. Kiprop has served as a Military observer in DRC with the United Nations Mission in Congo (MONUC) for one year from April 2002 to May 2003 playing a key role in the Disarmament, Demobilization and Re-integration (DDRRR) of Ex-combatants and other related activities.

Col A K Kiprop is a graduate of the Defence Staff College (DSC) and National Defence College, Tanzania (ndc Tz). He holds one diploma in strategic studies awarded by the university of Nairobi, Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Security Studies from Egerton university – Njoro and a Masters Degree in Security and Strategic Studies (MSSS) from the National Defence College Tanzania (ndc,Tz).

Col A. K. Kiprop has attended a number of other courses locally and in the region in the Leadership, Command and Management cluster that include Grade 3 staff course (G3 Course) Squadron Commanders Course (SCC Amour), Company Commander Course (CCC), Junior Command Course (JCC), Grade 2 staff Course and National Defence College (G1) Course.

Col A. K. Kiprop is married to Milkah K Koech and are both blessed with five children, four boys and a daughter.
