Kenya Army Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (KACEME) on Thursday, 23 December 2021 participated in a tree planting exercise in Njabini Forest, Nyandarua County. The exercise which saw 20,000 indigenous seedlings planted is in tandem with KDF efforts towards actualizing environmental sustainability as well as enhancing the “Environmental Soldier Program” aimed at conservation of the environment.
Njabini Forest is the home to Sasumua Dam, which is operated by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company and supplies water to the nearby areas as well as Nairobi County. Sasamua Dam has 1200 hectare of land that requires reforestation.
Speaking during the event, Greens of Africa Foundation representative reiterated the importance of restoring lost forests, repairing damaged ecosystems and mitigating climate changes.
The exercise was conducted in partnership with Kenya Forest Service who plays an integral role in the management of the forests in the country. Greens of Africa Foundation and Dedan Kimathi Foundation also participated in the noble activity which aims at providing favourable micro-climate and one of the best tourist scenic appeals in the area.
