CISM MAKES AN INSPECTION VISIT OF 16TH WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP VENUES

The International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire – CISM), President of CISM Golf Committee, Major Cameron Lowdon recently visited Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort in Diani, Kwale, the venue for the upcoming 16th edition of the World Military Golf Championships, that is scheduled to be held in June 2025.
Guided by its motto ‘Friendship through Sport’, CISM is the worldwide International Military Sport Organization devoted to bringing together Armed Forces personnel from all Nations through sports activities, thus enabling the physical training, military readiness and education for the Armed Forces.

CISM comprises 141 member nations and organizes over 25 sports and championships globally. With a core mission of fostering friendships through sports, CISM provides a platform for military athletes from diverse countries to come together, share experiences, and build international camaraderie.

In an interview at the resort, Major Lowdon who is on a pre-event inspection of host facilities thanked the government of Kenya and KDF for accepting to host the prestigious CISM event. He registered his excitement for the upcoming event, highlighting the significance of bringing military personnel together through sports.

“While these athletes may compete against each other on the battlefield, we bring them together on the sports field. It’s a unique opportunity for them to meet their peers, interact with comrades from different countries, and learn about diverse cultures,” said Major Lowdon.
Kenya has a long history with CISM.

Kenya hosted the 1st Africa Military Games in 2002 under the auspices of CISM and Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA). KDF has also hosted several CISM Solidarity courses for Africa’s Military Athletics and Boxing Coaches. This is in addition to Kenya’s participation in all CISM Military World Games (the military’s equivalent to the Olympics) where they have always posted impressive results.

The 2025 World Military Golf Championship will feature 15 to 20 countries representing the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, with an estimated 120 players expected to participate.

The event aims to strengthen relationships and promote cross-cultural exchange among military personnel.

The 2025 CISM Golf Championship in Kenya will showcase the spirit of international cooperation and highlight the growing importance of sports in fostering global unity. At the same time, it will be give Kenya the opportunity to showcase her rich culture, hospitality and beauty.
