CAPACITY BUILDING FOR A MORE SECURE EASTERN AFRICA

The Joint Chief of Staff at The Eastern Africa Standby Force, Brigadier General Stephen Kashure on behalf of the Director, Brigadier (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema on officially opened the Civilian Foundation Course at The Humanitarian Peace Support Training Centre (HPSS) in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The two-week-long Course brings together participants from the 10 member states of the Eastern Africa Standby Force which includes Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda and aims at equipping the participants with requisite skills on handling civilians in an Operation Area.

In his opening remarks, Brigadier General Kashure urged the participants to use the training opportunity to enhance their skills, broaden their perspective in peace operations and strengthen their commitment to peace and reminded them that together they can build a more secure Eastern Africa, Africa and world at large.
“I urge you to use this opportunity to enhance your skills, broaden your perspective in peace operation and strengthen your commitment to peace and stability in Africa,” he said.

During the event, Brigadier General Kashure also recognized the contributions of Africa and security architecture (APSA) and other development partners in capacity building for the Eastern Africa Standby Force, stating that their contributions underscore the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving lasting peace and stability.

The Eastern Africa Standby Force is a Regional Organization whose mandate is to enhance peace and security in the Eastern Africa region and was established as a regional mechanism to provide capability for rapid deployment of forces to carry out preventative deployment, rapid intervention, peace support and stability and enhance regional integration.

Also present during the opening ceremony was Commandant HPSS, Col John Rongoei, Head of Training HPSS, Lt Col Alex Neukomm, Lead Facilitator Col (Rtd) Kombo, Head of Civilian Component Eastern Africa Standby Force, Dr. Leah Barasa among others.
