PS MEETS HEADS OF DEPARTMENT AND CIVILIAN STAFF AT DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

The Principal Secretary for Defence Hon. Patrick Mariru, on 26 January 2023, made his maiden visit to the various civilian departments in the Ministry of Defence, domiciled at the Defence Headquarters Nairobi.

The orientation visit was organized in a bid for the PS to familiarise himself with the various departments and how they execute their mandate in supporting military personnel, as well as officially meet civilian officers at the headquarters.

This is the very first time in the history of MoD that a Principal Secretary has made a point to personally meet civilian officers.

Hon. Mariru was accompanied by the different heads of department who took him through the day to day duties of the departments, and also took the opportunity to highlight their achievements, goals and to voice out their challenges.

The PS appreciated the civilian staff, acknowledging their contribution to MoD  and further reminded them to be accountable. He was,  additionally  impressed with the Accounts department for maintaining a clean book of accounts  for the past 6 years. “ It is good to be accountable to the people who have entrusted their money to us”. Said Mr. Mariru.

These departments include: Public Communication, Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Policy and Strategy Planning, Accounting Unit, Internal Audit, Information Communication and Technology and Supply Chain.
