CDF URGES SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND HEADS TO DELIVER QUALITY EDUCATION IN KDF SPONSORED PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi has urged principals, Head Teachers and Board of Management (BOM) of various Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sponsored public schools to offer quality education to children of military personnel and those from communities around military cantonment.

Speaking at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi today where he hosted a conference to articulate the CDF’s vision; Sharpening the arrowhead through provision of quality education, Gen Kibochi noted that education is a key component in the welfare of the soldier and his family. Further he noted that quality education is a critical enabler to mission readiness.

“The establishment of the 29 KDF schools was to provide safe learning environment to the children of military personnel. Who owing to the nature of their duty often operate away from their families. This is the practice all over the world and we look forward to turn around these institutions into centers of excellence and reference.” Gen. Kibochi, an alumni of Koelel High School, a KDF sponsored school, said.

The Board of Management, Principals and Headteachers presented on respective challenges faced by the schools as well as the strategies to mitigate the same. Both Ms Rita Wahome the Director Staffing Division TSC and Ms Jane Njagi Regional Director TSC, Nairobi County, made a presentation on the role and efficiency of the Boards of Management.

To put the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) in context, Ms Miriam Mbugua the CBC Coordinator at CITAM Schools Woodley, delivered an elaborate and practical session on the preparedness and implementation of the CBC.

“It takes commitment and hardwork to succeed. We have to re-dedicate ourselves to sharpen these young minds. We shall be very happy to hear students who went through our institutions follow in the footsteps of leaders such as the CS Defence,

Dr Monica Juma who is also an alumni of KDF sponsored schools. We therefore need to refocus and prioritize improving the standards of learning,” Gen Kibochi added.

The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Defence Hon. Peter Odoyo noted that quality education in KDF sponsored schools is the best thing they can offer to the service members to enable their children compete on a global level.

The various Principals and school heads thanked the CDF for the major renovations recently done in their institutions during the long break due the Covid-19 pandemic.

The forum was attended by Vice CDF Lieutenant General Levi Mghalu, Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton, Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Francis Ogolla, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Jimson Mutai and Assistant CDF (Personnel and Logistics) Major General Fatuma Ahmed.
