OAB TROOPS ENHANCE EDUCATION IN LAMU AND GARISSA COUNTIES

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) recently completed key education improvement projects in Garissa and Lamu counties. The troops handed over four renovated classrooms and an office at Bulagolol Primary School in Garissa County, as well as three new classrooms and an ablution block at Bahati Njema Primary School in Lamu West.

The projects involved upgrading old classrooms with new blackboards, windows, and ceilings, alongside painting and furnishing the spaces. New facilities were also constructed to provide a better learning environment for students. These efforts were carried out during school holidays as part of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) program, aimed at enhancing education and fostering strong relationships between the KDF and local communities.

During the handover ceremony at Bulagolol Primary School, attended by the school’s head teacher, Mr. Harun Hussein Mohammed, local parents, and the school administration, Major Joseph Mutua, the project officer, emphasized the importance of a conducive learning environment. He also expressed gratitude to the local community for their support.

Mr. Harun Hussein thanked the KDF for their efforts and appealed for additional support to benefit more schools in the area. The event concluded with a tree-planting activity involving KDF troops, parents, and students to improve the school’s environment and promote sustainability.

In Lamu West, KDF troops collaborated with the Lamu County Government and the Rotary Club of Lamu to deliver the new facilities at Bahati Njema Primary School. KDF provided materials and supervision for the construction, while the County Government supplied labor, and the Rotary Club contributed materials and labor for the ablution block.

These joint initiatives not only aim to improve education but also create jobs, enhance regional security, and strengthen the bonds between the KDF and local communities.
