KENYAN AND INDIAN BATTALIONS SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCT JOINT FIRE DRILL IN GOMA, DRC

The Kenya Signal Company 3 (KENSIG-3), deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), in collaboration with the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion (INDRDB), conducted a joint fire drill to enhance readiness and response capabilities for fire-related emergencies.

The exercise that was held at Himbi Camp in Goma town focused on three critical aspects: extinguishing fires within buildings, managing open-area fires, and executing casualty evacuations during emergencies. It was designed to simulate real-life scenarios, testing the troops’ ability to respond effectively to fire outbreaks while ensuring the safety of personnel and resources in a conflict zone.

Speaking after the exercise, Major Stephen Otieno, the Officer Commanding KENSIG-3, commended the troops for their dedication and teamwork.

“Fire emergencies are unpredictable and can escalate rapidly in such operational environments. This drill underscores the importance of preparedness, coordination, and inter-unit collaboration. Both KENSIG-3 and INDRDB displayed skill and professionalism, which is vital for mission success,” he remarked.

The drill highlighted the high level of training and precision among the troops. Both units worked seamlessly, demonstrating their ability to combat fires and provide rapid medical assistance in crisis situations. Major Otieno emphasized the significance of such exercises, stating,

“These drills not only sharpen our tactical capabilities but also foster stronger bonds between peacekeeping contingents, ensuring the safety of all mission personnel,” he added.

The joint effort showcased the shared commitment of KENSIG-3 and INDRDB to enhancing operational efficiency and promoting safety in the mission area. This collaboration reinforces the critical role of joint training exercises in maintaining mission readiness and ensuring the well-being of all stakeholders in the MONUSCO mandate.
