KDF PARTNERS WITH KFS IN TREE PLANTING EXERCISE
Kenya Army personnel from the 3rd Battalion, the Kenya Rifles in conjunction with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the local community of Kabatini in Bahati Sub County, Nakuru County, conducted tree planting exercise at Dundori Forest on Tuesday 25th April 2023.
The exercise is in line with the Commander-in-Chief’s national tree restoration Programme aimed at mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) through its Environmental Soldier Program has enabled soldiers to be at the centre stage of environmental rehabilitation and conservation by planting trees to preserve the eco-systems.
The local community expressed their appreciation to the KDF and KFS for their continued efforts towards actualising environmental security through tree planting exercises and they pledged to take care for the planted trees in order to ensure their survival to maturity.
During the exercise over 6,000 tree seedlings of various indigenous species such as Cypress, Moringa and Podo trees were planted. The exercise also brought the community together and created a sense of environmental responsibility in which every small action can make a big difference in fight against climate change.
Dundori Forest, in Nakuru County is a key biodiversity area, as it harbours critical species of flora and fauna. Further it plays a critical environmental role in the region.
