KDF CONDUCTS A FREE MEDICAL CAMP AT KIRIMA IN LAIKIPIA COUNTY

Kenya Defence Forces troops from 75 Artillery Battalion stationed at Ngoisusu Military camp under ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu’ North Rift in collaboration with Beyond Zero Campaign, Ministry of health physicians from Ol moran and Rumuruti, today 23 March 2023 concluded a two-week Medi-camp in Kirima, Laikipia west Sub County in Laikipia County which started on 14 March 2023.

The exercise covered areas of Ol Moran Market, Kisii Ndogo, Ngare Narok, Ol Motonyi and Ngoisusu villages where residents benefited from free medical services such as general medical check-ups including upper respiratory conditions, muscular skeleton disorders, skin conditions, Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) and diarrhea, screening of breast and cervical cancer, ENT, nutrition assessment, immunization and antenatal Care. The locals were also educated on hygiene, proper food handling, proper nutrition, the importance of antenatal care, clinic visits and regular hydration.

The medical team managed to attend up to 837 patients majority of whom were women and children. Of the cases treated 3 were referred for further medical attention and the rest left for Homecare. The prevalent cases in the areas included Malnutrition in young kids and Eye cataracts among the old.

Led by the Officer Commanding, 11 Battery Artillery, Major Felix Mackenzi, the communities were encouraged to enroll their young ones in school to manage the illiteracy levels in their area and be at par with the others. The locals expressed their gratitude to KDF and Beyond Zero for their initiative of providing them with free medical services. Moreover, they promised to support all government projects and initiatives aimed at achieving everlasting peace and co-existence.

The free medical camp is among CIMIC activities conducted by the Multi agency operation team in ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu’ North Rift aimed at providing services to humanity and fostering good relations between the security apparatus and the local populace.
