CDF VISITS KIBARANI KENYA MEAT COMMISSION

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi on 29th August 2022, visited Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) factory at Kibarani- Mombasa to inspect the ongoing renovation of the infrastructure that commenced in September 2021.

During the visit, the CDF witnessed the first batch of 62 livestock slaughtered at the facility to mark its operationalization since its revival by the KDF personnel. The factory has the capacity to slaughter 250 large stocks and 500 small stocks per day.

He also toured various sections of the facility including meat deboning, hides and skins semi processing facility, vast cold storage facilities for both chilling and freezing among other sections. Heads of each section briefed the CDF comprehensively on the roles of each department and all levels of meat preparation, processing and packaging.

The Kibarani factory plays a significant role in support of KDF Units/Formations and security agencies within the Coast region by supplying fresh and quality meat products to help them expedite their roles. The face-lift is also geared towards uplifting the livelihood of the livestock farmers in the Coast and North Eastern regions by providing a ready market and buying of livestock at competitive prices.

Later in the day, General Kibochi toured the Makupa Nyama haven a one stop shop where fresh meat products are sold to members of the public.

The CDF was accompanied by Commander Kenya Navy Major General Jimson Mutai, KMC Director Brigadier James Githaiga, Chief of Logictics DHQ Brigadier Githinji, Chief of Finance Ministry of Defence Mr. Charles Muhia among other Officers and KMC officials.
