For ten years now the Kenya Defence Forces have been in Somalia in operation ‘Linda Nchi’ following an afront to the country’s sovereignty, by the Al Shabaab terror outfit.

The continued stay that has since seen KDF incorporated under the umbrella of the Africa union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has had its ups and downs. With KDF registering one of its landmark victories against the Al-Shabaab in the south western Somalia town of Hosingow.

It is here that close to 1000 Al Shabaab fighters attacked a KDF camp in a battle that lasted 11 hours and when the guns finally went silent, 300 militants lay dead with not a single soul lost on the KDF side. Hassan Mugambi takes us back to the battle for Hosingo that changed the course of the war on Al Shabaab.
