MILITARY AND CIVILIAN OFFICIALS TRAINED IN PERFORMANCE CONTRACTING

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), through the Department of Strategy, Policy, and Planning, conducted a comprehensive two-day training program on Performance Contracting (PC) for military and civilian officials.

Held at the Defence Headquarters, the training aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills in Performance Contracting. The training programme was facilitated by experts from the Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSPMU), led by Director John Magwa.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Isaac Masinde, the Defence Secretary of Administration (SA), underscored the significance of the training. He emphasized the Performance Contract as a crucial accountability tool used by the Government to gauge efficiency and effectiveness in performance management. He commended the Ministry’s past performance while challenging the participants to focus on improving the set standards.

The training delved into various key areas, including an overview of Performance Contracting in Kenya, the design, structure, and implementation of a standard Performance Contract, among others. Both theoretical teachings and practical exercises were incorporated to ensure comprehensive learning.

The Ministry’s exemplary performance in the previous financial year, ranking “Very Good” and securing the second position in the Ministerial category, underscores the importance of such training initiatives. By sensitizing officers on best practices in Performance Contracting, the focus remains on continual improvement and sustaining the Ministry’s performance standards.
