ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH HOLDS PMC MASS AT ST. PETER AND PAUL CATHEDRAL

The Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral Parish today held the diocesan Pontifical Missionary Children (PMC) mass at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Nairobi.

Lieutenant Colonel (Msgr) John Njue, serving as the Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, led the mass centred around the theme ‘Together in Prayer.’ The theme was inspired by the book of Acts 4:24, signifying the commencement of preparations for the Jubilee year 2025.

The service was geared towards encouraging the participation of children in church under the PMC umbrella, whose motto is, ‘Children Helping Children’ and anchored on two pillars of Prayer and Sharing.

During his sermon, Lieutenant Colonel (Msgr) Njue emphasized the significance of providing care and support to children, virtues that stem from one’s calling and are entrusted to parents and caregivers by God. He expressed that children ought to be influenced by our conduct, which should serve as a positive model for them to follow.

“Although you are very young, you are apostles of Jesus. It is time for us to prepare you to be leaders of tomorrow,” he said to the children, adding that it is important for parents to lay a good foundation for their children and protect against societal dangers.

PMC’s National Coordinator, Sr. Rose Mwangi, said that Pope Francis has emphasized love towards children, who should further help other children through prayer.

“This year, let’s help each other in prayer. It is our duty to continue inducting children into prayer and reminding them to pray,” she said.

During the event, Lt. Col (Msgr) Njue blessed Missionary tins received from different military Ordinariates intended to help needy children in the society.

The mass is held annually in April and today it was a big privilege for the PMC, comprising children aged 13 years and below, to celebrate mass with the new Apostolic Administrator, Lieutenant Colonel (Msgr) Njue, who succeeded Col Emeritus (Msgr) (Dr) Benjamin Maswili in January 2024.

The mass was attended by the Parish Priest, Fr. Francis Mbaga, PMC Chaplain Fr Duncan Ndungu, Catechists and Animators drawn from different parishes of military Ordinariate of Kenya.
