PRIME CABINET SECRETARY JOINS KENYA DEFENCE FORCES MUSLIMS FOR IFTAR

The Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi on 14th April 2023 joined the Kenya Defence Forces Muslim fraternity for Iftar (breaking of the fast) at the Ulinzi Sports Complex Lang’ata in Nairobi. He was hosted by Defence Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Aden Duale and the Chief of the Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi.

The important occasion happened during what is likely to be the last Friday of this years Ramadhan calendar, a period when Muslims globally intensify acts of worship as they bid farewell to this holy month. The Prime Cabinet Secretary and the KDF top leadership were in attendance as the KDF Muslims broke their fast and performed Maghrib prayer. They later joined the Muslims for the Iftar dinner.

While making his address, Hon. Mudavadi, underscored the importance of this holy month saying it offers an opportunity for Muslims to practice self-control and rededicate themselves to worshiping Allah.

The Prime CS hailed the Ministry of Defence and the KDF for respecting religious diversity by developing a harmonious working environment for soldiers of different faiths. He urged Kenyans from all walks of life to emulate such cohesiveness and generosity since it is in such unity that the country is assured of a brighter future.

He observed this Ramadhan coincided with Easter season for the Christians and said that these two critical events have contributed to peaceful coexistence in the country.

“Kenya is greatly blessed to have harmonious co-existence between its varied religions and this has contributed immensely towards enhanced peace in our country. The respect we uphold for each other’s religion speaks to the maturity of Kenyans in understanding that the diversity of religion does not separate us from one another but instead, builds us into one people under one God,” said Hon Mudavadi.

He commended the KDF Muslim fraternity for their donations to help needy Kenyans within the Boni Enclave in Lamu County and also in parts of Garissa and Tana River Counties. He added that the actions are worth emulating.

In his remarks, CS Duale said Ramadhan is a significant period in the Islamic calendar. It does not only provide an opportunity for physical nourishment but also spiritual with the ultimate aim being attaining Allah’s pleasure through the regulation of one’s life in accordance with His commands.

He affirmed the commitment and dedication of the Ministry of Defence to discharge its Constitutional mandate of defending and protecting the nation from external aggression on land, airspace and the territorial waters.

“I’m very motivated to be in the Ministry of Defence where spirituality is respected. In all the military establishments I have toured even in operational areas, I have seen churches and mosques. This is clear that in all our undertakings, we are guided by the Almighty God,” said the CS.

Hon. Duale paid special tributes to the gallant soldiers who lost their lives defending their motherland saying their acts of bravely made them pay the ultimate prize.

“Our Defence Forces have remained brave, deeply professional and disciplined which has endeared them to various peace initiatives across the world. We should exert all our effort to continue being a premier Force, not only in the region but globally,” he added.

The Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi noted that KDF as a family has taken advantage of the prayer season to advance the espirit de corps and to pray for good tidings in the entire country.

Additionally, the Prime CS was taken through a tour of the state of the art Sports Complex so as to appreciate the various facilities encompassed within. The Prime CS was impressed by the standards and he said he would invite the President to come experience it for himself.

Others who attended the Iftar include the Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla, Service Commanders, General Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
