NURTURING A SAVING CULTURE FOR A FINANCIALLY SECURE SOLDIER IN SUPPORT OF ONE FORCE ONE MISSION

The Defence Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (DESACCO) held its Delegates’ training on 7th and the Annual Delegates Meeting on 8th March respectively at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi.

The two day event that ran sequentially, kicked off with an opening address from the Vice Chairperson DESACCO, Brigadier Charles Mwazighe who inaugurated the training session and extended a warm welcome to all the delegates that were in attendance.

During the training, discussions centered around the importance of understanding the SACCO’s movement and the crucial role of delegates in fostering financial unity, adaptability, growth, and sustainability of a vibrant SACCO. The training also delved into risk and compliance considerations, emphasizing the need for a robust framework to ensure the SACCO’s stability. Moreover, strategic planning for SACCO success was highlighted as a key factor in navigating the complex financial landscape and ensuring long-term viability.

During the meeting, the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General David Ketter who is also Chairman of the DESACCO’s Board of Directors acknowledged the significant contributions of past leadership to DESACCO and expressed pride in the organization’s accomplishments over the past four years. He underscored the importance of teamwork for effective service delivery.

The highlight of the Annual Delegates Meeting was the presentation of the institution’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2028 by the chairperson, who presented the documents to the Chief Executive Officer DESACCO Colonel Truphosa Omondi. The Strategic Plan outlines the organization’s goals, objectives, and roadmap for the upcoming years, providing a clear direction for DESACCO’s future, growth and development.

On the same platform, resolutions were passed key among them were the budget and the audited accounts and approval of payment of dividends to members.These decisions are crucial in shaping the leadership and direction of DESACCO for the coming years.

SACCO members and the retiring Board Members who exhibited exemplary performance in supporting the growth of of DESACCO through membership mobilization were feted having made significant contributions to the organization. This gesture recognized their hard work and dedication, motivating them to continue championing the mission vision and goals of DESACCO

Also present were first DESACCO chairperson Major General Fatma Ahmed, Ps Defense representative Mr. Benjamin Odegi , Mr Amatha of the State Department for Co-operatives, the Chief Officer Cooperatives Nairobij County Mr. Akumali, Director Cooperatives Nairobi County Mrs Aremo, Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members and DESACCO delegates from various regions.
