MAU WATER TOWER REFORESTATION PROJECT

On 13 October 2021, KDF participated in the launch of the “Mau Water Tower Reforestation Project” by Green Belt Movement (GBM) in collaboration with French Development Agency (AFD) a project that will establish a robust ecosystem restoration and livelihoods empowerment interventions.

The 4-year project targets to restore over 300 hectares of critical water towers within the Mau complex targeting to plant at least 300,000 seedlings.

The event was marked by planting 10,000 seedlings of assorted indigenous species to signify the kick of the robust project that targets to bring several stake holders on board in order to realize their objective. This in line with the government target to achieve 10% forest cover by 2022.

Brigadier John Nkoimo, Deputy Commandant Kenya Military Academy, marked the event by planting twin seedlings of a Podo Spp and Casuarina Spp to signify the unique responsibility of KDF to ensure comprehensive human security. He said that environmental issues are anchored in the KDF’s Environment soldier programme established in 2003.
