MARKING THE LAST FRIDAY OF RAMADAN

MARKING THE LAST FRIDAY OF RAMADAN

Kenya Defence Forces Muslim fraternity today joined their counterparts across the globe in marking the last Friday of Ramadhan at Kahawa Garrison.

In a Friday congregation sermon (Khutbah) delivered by the Kenya Army Service Imam Colonel (Imam) Rajab Athman, he talked about fruits of fasting and charity giving. Col (Imam) Athman encouraged the worshippers to take advantage of the few remaining days of the holy month of Ramadan to foster their relationship with Allah.

“As we mark the last Friday, we should endeavour to do good and continually engage in worship,” he advised.

He also encouraged the believers not to let their spiritual guard down and to endeavour to focus on successfully coming to the end of the spiritual month. He urged them to take part in the Tahajud and Vigil (Taraweh) prayers traditionally observed during this period.

“It is during these last days that we get the opportunity to increase one’s spiritual discipline and to do good deeds in preparation for Eid. The blessings and spiritual enrichment during this period serve as a source of inspiration and motivation to us,” encouraged Col (Imam) Athman.

Moreover, Col (Imam) Athman reminded them that the days are a time for increased acts of kindness and charity as Muslims strive to embody the values of generosity and compassion.

Finally, he emphasized the importance of offering Zakat as guided by the Quran. He explained that it could be offered in form of meals (Zakat Fitr) in this period of fasting or as financial support (Zakat Imal) which is mandatory for every financially stable Muslim.

The holy month of Ramadan is expected to end either on the 9th or 10th of April when Muslims will be celebrating Eid and offer Zakatul Fitr. The exact day of Eid is subject to the sighting of Shawaal moon.

Ramadan is the most sacred month of the Islamic calendar and a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and charity. The last ten days and nights hold even more significance as Allah shows great mercy to his creation.
