KENYA NAVY SOLDIERS GO GREEN

Kenya Navy soldiers on Saturday, 09 April 22 participated in a tree planting exercise at the Mama Ngina Water Front in Mombasa County.

The soldiers joined environmental activists, government officials and students from various learning institutions in Mombasa, in an exercise that saw over 300 trees planted.

Principal Secretary for Tourism, Zeinab Hussein graced the exercise and urged communities living in semi-arid areas of the region to plant more drought-resistant trees to boost the rains that have become less consistent.

“It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to plant trees. I implore you to plant trees equivalent to one’s age. This will enable us increase our forest cover in the region to fight climate change,” said the Principal Secretary.

The exercise targeted to increase the forest cover in Mombasa County. Tree planting remains under KDF’s ‘Environmental Soldier Programme,’ whose aim is to restore and protect the forest cover..
