ENHANCING ROAD SAFETY AMONG KDF DRIVERS

Commandant Defence Headquarters Camp Admin Unit (DHQ CAU) Brigadier Willy Wesonga on 15-16 April 2024, presided over a two-day seminar on road safety for Kenya Defence Forces drivers organized by the Kenya Army Corps of Transport at the Defence Headquarters.

With the theme “Towards Zero, A Vision for Safer Roads,” the training brought together instructors from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the School of Transport to capacity build Kenya Defence Forces drivers on road safety in operational and peace time areas.

Brigadier Wesonga emphasized the crucial role of drivers in the KDF and stressed the importance of remaining alert while on the road. He highlighted the prohibition of drug use while operating vehicles due to its detrimental effect on judgment. Additionally, he underscored the significance of training, considering the high number of accidents witnessed across the country, stating that such measures would help curb incidents.

Commandant School of Transport Lieutenant Colonel Simon Cherugut, highlighted the pivotal responsibility each driver holds in enhancing safe driving practices and emphasized the importance of vigilance and adherence to road safety procedures.

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) instructor Mr. Lawrence Maina, emphasized the paramount importance of road safety for all road users, including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers. He further enlightened participants on traffic laws, defensive driving techniques and the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, stressing the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and regulations to deter risky behaviors like speeding, reckless driving, and driving without proper documentation.

The seminar aimed at instilling professionalism in the operation of motor vehicles and raise awareness about road safety among KDF drivers.
