The Kenya Army held a colourful farewell ceremony for the Retiring Army Sergeant Major (ASM), Warrant Officer Class One (WOI), Fanuel Mahebo after forty-two years of selfless service to the country at the Kenya Army Headquarters, Ngao Gardens. The ceremony was graced by the Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Peter Njiru.
Enlisted to Kenya Defence Forces in 1981, WOI Mahebo has risen through the ranks until he was appointed as the ASM in 2022. He has previously served as the National Defence University-Kenya Sergeant Major, Academy Sergeant Major at the Kenya Military Academy and as the Regimental Sergeant Major at the 81 Tk Battalion.
In his remarks, Lt Gen Njiru appreciated the outgoing ASM for his devoted service and bid him farewell on his retirement, “Thank you for your commitment and selfless service, you have served as an inspiration to generations of soldiers throughout your service and you have been a beacon of honour. As you retire, we wish you well as you embark on a new chapter of life. May your retirement be filled with joy and satisfaction of a job well done.”
The event also marked the unveiling of the newly-appointed Kenya Army Sergeant Major WOI Joel Murage. While welcoming the new ASM, Lt Gen Njiru congratulated him on his appointment and wished him well as he takes up a critical role and huge responsibility in the Kenya Army service. He emphasized on the importance of working together with other Service Sergeant Majors for the betterment of the KDF.
Deputy Army Commander Major General David Tarus in his remarks applauded the incoming ASM on his new appointment and encouraged him as he undertakes the ASM’s responsibilities, “Congratulations on your appointment as the new Army Sergeant Major, your tireless dedication and exceptional leadership have not gone unnoticed, today we honour you for your extraordinary achievement. Continue to lead with honour, inspire those around you and uphold the proud traditions of our Army.”
Defence Forces Sergeant Major WOI Elijah Koranga in his speech applauded outgoing ASM for his dedication throughout his career.
“Today we celebrate you for your illustrious military service for forty-two years. The impact of your leadership will continue to manifest in all the soldiers. We wish God’s blessings as you retire,” said the DFSM.
Present during the ceremony were General Officer Commanding Eastern Command Major General Juma Mwinyikai, Commandant Kenya Military Academy Major General John Nkoimo, Senior Officers, Officers, Kenya Air Force Sergeant Major WOI Dennis Talengo, Kenya Navy Sergeant Major WOI Haji Mbwana, Kenya Army Soldiers, Retired Sergeant Majors and the family of the Retiring and Incoming ASM.
