The Defence Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (DESACCO) today launched a two-day workshop focused on Board and Supervisory Committee training at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The workshop was officially opened by Board Chairman and Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General David Keter.
In his opening remarks, Major General Keter emphasized the importance of training as a cornerstone for improving human resource capabilities and service delivery, highlighting its significant contribution to DESACCO’s growth since inception.
Major General Keter also expressed gratitude to DESACCO’s partners, CIC Group and Co-operative Bank Consultancy, for their continued collaboration and mentorship, which has bolstered the skills and capabilities of DESACCO’s management and staff.
His sentiments were echoed by DESACCO CEO Brigadier Nehemiah Kemei, who urged participants to embrace best practices in management. Brigadier Kemei stressed that the training’s main goal is to strengthen governance and operational efficiency within DESACCO.
The workshop gathers board members and members of the supervisory committee, with Co-operative Bank Consultancy providing facilitation. Key topics covered include governance structures, SACCO business models, regulatory frameworks, financial statement analysis, ICT adoption, internal controls, and general management roles, among others.
The opening session was attended by Board Vice Chairman and Defence Headquarters Chief of Compensation, Brigadier Edward Nyamao, Chief of Finance Brigadier Sammy Kipng’etich, Supervisory Committee Chairman Colonel Julius Cheruiyot, other board and supervisory committee members, CIC Life Managing Director Meshak Miyogo, and DESACCO staff.
