General Francis Ogolla, Chief of the Defence Forces, leads the KDF fraternity to congratulate WO2 Hellen Obiri who has successfully defended her Boston Marathon Title.
Laikipia Air Base’s (LAB) Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) Hellen Obiri, representing Kenya, showcased her remarkable prowess once again as she clinched her second consecutive victory at the prestigious Boston Marathon on Monday.
The 34-year-old Kenyan athlete displayed exceptional resilience and determination throughout the gruelling race, ultimately surging ahead of her compatriot Sharon Lokedi, 30, in the final mile to secure the win.
Obiri’s outstanding performance saw her crossing the finish line in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 37 seconds, cementing her status as one of the most formidable long-distance runners in the world.
This victory comes only a year after Obiri transitioned from middle to long distance running. Her strategic approach and unwavering focus propelled her to triumph against a field of elite competitors, showcasing her unparalleled skill and dedication to the sport.
She becomes the second Kenyan female athlete to retain her championship in the Boston Marathon. The first was former marathon world record holder Catherine Ndereba in 2004 and 2005.
Congratulations to WO 2 Obiri on her victory, and may her triumph continue to inspire future generations of athletes and service personnel alike.
