The Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Francis Ogolla has today met Lt Gen Asrat Denero Amad who is the head of the envoy deployed to South Sudan as the Chairperson of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM). The CTSAMVM Chairperson paid him a courtesy visit at the VCDF Defence Headquarters’ office in Nairobi.
The meeting was aimed at evaluating and apprising the VCDF on the developments of the peace process in efforts to end hostilities in South Sudan. It also covered the milestones that the CTSAMVM has achieved since it’s inception in 2015.
The CTSAMVM was established by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) as a successor to the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (MVM) to monitor Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed by the warring groups in 2014.
Lt Gen Ogolla appreciated the milestones that the body has realized including the increased number of graduated unified forces across South Sudan as well as holding of successful peace workshops and initiatives. Lt Gen Denero, who is also the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Ground Forces and Coordinator of the Metekel Zone Integrated Command Post called for continued support of CTSAMVM to continue executing it’s mandate of monitoring, verifying assessing and reporting the security situation in South Sudan. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is represented at CTSAMVM by 16 officers.
