THE GERMAN CHANCELLOR VISITS HUMANITARIAN PEACE SUPPORT SCHOOL

His Excellency, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz today, 5th May 2023, made an official visit to the Humanitarian Peace Support School in Embakasi Garrison Nairobi as part of his state visit to Kenya.

The Chancellor was received by the Director Defence National Security Industries (DNSI) Major General Bernard Waliaula and hosted by Director International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC) Brigadier Joyce Sitienei. The Chancellor was briefed on the school activities and briefly interacted with course participants undergoing Explosive Hazardous Awareness Training. He also briefly visited Counter Improvised Explosive Devices Complex (C-IED) currently undergoing construction at the school. The Counter – IED Complex construction is in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation(GIZ), an international enterprise owned by the German Federal Government.

In her remarks the director IPSTC said that the complex will enhance the scope of training and development which will in turn enhance the performance of individuals that pass through the institution for C-IED training.

“In today’s world where knowledge is power, it should come as no surprise that the most asset for any organization is the knowledge held by its personnel. This can only be achieved by having proper training facilities which meet the required standards.” Brig Sitienei added.

In his Remarks the Director Defence National Security Industries Major General Bernard Waliaula thanked the Chancellor for his visit and echoed that it shows the German Federal government’s commitment towards the regional efforts in counter terrorism operations.

“As I welcome you to this institution, I wish to appreciate the efforts of the German government in facilitating and sponsoring the construction of this complex. This project is proof of the commitment of the German government in empowering the regional security sectors in countering violence extremism.” Maj Gen Waliaula said.

Also present at the event were the CS Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Honourable Salim Mvurya, German Ambassador to Kenya Ambassador Sebastian Groth, German Defence Attachee Colonel Holger Grossman , Senior Officers, Officers and partners from GIZ.

This was the Chancellor’s second major visit to the continent as head of government.
