THE C-IN-C LEADS THE COUNTRY IN CELEBRATING 61ST MADARAKA DAY

Today Kenya celebrated  it’s 61st Madaraka Day led by the President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Kenya Defence Forces His Excellency William Ruto, at the Masinde Muliro Kanduyi stadium, Bungoma County.

The ceremony marked every 1st June is significant to Kenya as it commemorates that significant day in 1963 where it attained internal self-rule from the British colonial rule.

The President was received by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri, who also accompanied him to inspect a guard of honour mounted by the 5 Kenya Rifles better known as ‘The Fighting Five.’ This was followed by a match past by various security agencies present at the ceremony.

This year’s theme: ‘Agriculture and Food Security,’ saw 2,500 agripreneurs representing the 47 counties, commissioned by the President, before they set out to equip farmers with Agricultural skills enabling them to be self sufficient and consequently contribute to the economic growth of the country.

In his speech during the ceremony, the C-in-C acknowledged the gallant men and women who made immense sacrifices for the course of freedom and justice, through their struggle and triumph.

He further noted that the day not only marks the day Kenya attained self-rule but also a day that ensures the aspirations and principles that motivated our heroes are not only alive today but is still the flame that spark our souls, encouraging each one of us to pursue progress and prosperity.

The President further noted that our self-governing mandate was not an accident in history but rather an affirmation of the timeless values embraced and articulated by those that came before us.

The head of state further highlighted that Madaraka Day does not look down upon the work that one does, regardless of ones occupation, because work makes a great nation and people. “Today is the day to remember that every work matters.” Said the President.

President Ruto further made emphasise on Agripreneurship, noting that Agriculture has the capabilities of propelling the country into an internationally competitive trading giant.

The day brought together local and foreign dignitaries who came in solidarity to celebrate the important day.
