TECHNICIAN GRADUATES TO ENHANCE KDF EQUIPMENT SERVICEABILITY

Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF) Major General John Omenda on 27th October 2022 presided over the 18th Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) graduation Ceremony at Embakasi Garrison.

DEFTEC whose mission is to Train Technical and Information Technology Human Resource, Conduct Research and Development for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Support and Sustain Industrialization Strategy, is a Tri-Service constituent College of National Defence University of Kenya (NDU-K).

Commander KAF was briefed on the progress of the college thereafter he was taken through various ongoing projects that included: Vaccinations Management App, Military Smart Card Identification System, Pneumatic Sheet Metal Cutting Machine and Hydraulically Angled Rocket Launcher which are among innovations initiated by DEFTEC students.

The 18th graduation saw graduands comprised of Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy who graduated with Diplomas in various engineering fields also conduct a colourful parade.

Speaking during the event, Maj Gen Omenda Congratulated the College for progressively registering commendable academic performance in Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Exam Series for the past three years. He noted that in the 2022 July KNEC Exam the College registered 100 percent pass rate.

Commander KAF also encouraged the research department to focus on industrial sectors and recognized the outstanding performance of the College witnessed during the 2022 Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF).

Consequently, he congratulated the graduands for their hard work and urged them to remain loyal and disciplined as KDF members.

“I am pleased to inform you that my office shall continue providing the necessary support that the College requires in the attainment of excellence,” added Maj Gen Omenda.

His words were echoed by DEFTEC Principal Brigadier Mohamed Ali who expressed satisfaction over the graduands.

“I wish to affirm that the graduands before you have been properly trained, educated and examined. I therefore have no doubt whatsoever, that they are qualified and competent enough to manage, service, repair and maintain all Equipment in the KDF inventories,” he stated.

Through NDU-K, the College endeavours to collaborate with Institutions and other
organisations in supporting and sustaining Industrialisation Strategy. Additionally, the College is preparing to host KDF Science Technology
Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Symposium which aims to showcase
contributions by KDF Formations/Units, participating Companies and Institutions to the National agenda.

Also present during the graduation were Base Commander Moi Air Base Brigadier Samwel Kipkorir, Director Academic Affairs NDU-K Brigadier Benedict Mwololo, Chief Compensation and Welfare Defence Headquarters Brigadier John Khaoyo, Commandants from various KDF and National Police Service Schools, Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members, Families and friends of graduands.
