SENSITIZING LAMU LOCALS AGAINST TERRORISM

SENSITIZING LAMU LOCALS AGAINST TERRORISM

The Security Sector Counter-Violent Extremism (SSCVE) team in collaboration with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB), conducted Counter-Terrorism (CT) sensitization forums in Bobo, Roka, Bobo, and Misumarini in the Boni frontier villages of Lamu County.

The exercise spearheaded by Colonel Yahya Mohamed of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre brought together various security agencies and leaders from the County Government of Lamu.

The leaders observed that radicalization continues to be the main avenue, fueling violent extremism among the religious faith, thus requiring a robust demystification to reduce the potential recruitment of youths to terror groups.

“Joint Counter-Terrorism sensitization forums by the SSCVE team in the Boni frontier villages underline a crucial step towards combating radicalization and violent extremism,” said Col Yahya.

He further noted that continued community engagement and inter-agency cooperation are vital for sustaining progress against terrorism.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of collaboration across security agencies and local leadership in Lamu County.
