PS MARIRU OPENS WORKSHOP FOR CIVILIAN ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Mr. Patrick Mariru has today opened a one-day workshop for the Civilian Administrative Officers from all Kenya Defence Forces units across the country.

During the workshop held at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, the PS appreciated the Administrative Officers for their exemplary work saying the civilian staff are an essential component supporting the KDF.

In his remarks, Mr. Mariru stated that the soldier is the ‘North Star’ adding that the input of every civilian staff is of great importance towards the achievement of the broad mandate of defence and protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

“You are an extremely important component of our establishment since we support the uniformed personnel to enable them discharge their mandate effectively. Even the sweeper and the person who makes tea is as important as the PS,” he said.

He further assured them of full support into their activities and challenged them to mentor the young under their units.

“We are developing a mentorship program in the Ministry to enhance capacity building among the junior staff. I implore you to find it necessary to hold the hands of those under you to make them become like you in the near future,” said the PS.

He urged the Administrators to set targets and cascade the Performance Contract to the lowest cadres to enable the Ministry assess its performance in line with the directive of His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

His sentiments were echoed by the Director Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) Dr. Lilian Nzavi who was the convener of the forum saying Performance Contract is a key tool to asses  service delivery.

The Director thanked the PS and the entire MoD leadership for the support adding that the grievances addressed by the participants shall adequately be addressed.

Dr. Nzavi said that the Ministry is in the process of developing Schemes of Service for specific cadres that have for a long time operated without.

During the workshop, the PS was joined by the Secretary of Administration (SA) Mr. Boniface Wambua, Director Strategy, Policy and Planning Mr. Kennedy Okondo and the Head of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Mr. Kennedy Radull.
