PS DEFENCE PRESIDES OVER ANNUAL FINANCIAL EXPENDITURE MANAGEMENT FORUM

The Principal Secretary for Ministry of Defence Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed today presided over this year’s workshop on Financial Expenditure Management at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Nairobi.

The forum brought together over 100 officials both Military and MOD civilian officers and aimed at building competency and capacity to the participants in a bid to enhance effective, efficient and economical utilisation of public resources allotted to their departments.

In his opening speech, the PS urged participants to always adhere to the financial guidelines as set by the National Treasury and Defence Headquarters.

“We must be cautious of the dire consequences of the pending bills which entails: Budget slashing by the Treasury, imposition of interest, frequent appearance before the established constitutional bodies and unending court litigations,” he warned.

He further called upon the officials to ensure that all pending bills are paid promptly and that the projects are managed professionally for maximum absorption of the Ministry’s resource allocation.

He emphasized that in the last Four years, MOD has performed exemplarily in matters financial management due to the strict adherence to the Mininstry’s financial policy and timely implementation of its projects.

The facilitators comprised officials from the Office of the Attorney General, National Treasury and Planning, National Construction Authority as well as the Kenya School of Government.
