PS DEFENCE APPEARS BEFORE THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON DELEGATED LEGISLATION

Defence Principal Secretary Mr Patrick Mariru has today 1 December 2023, appeared before The National Assembly Committee on Delegated Legislation, for clarifications on the proposed Public Finance Management (Ulinzi Prime Health Services Fund) Regulations, 2023.

The PS highlighted that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) health facilities are well-resourced in medical equipment and personnel and must be well-maintained. He expressed that opening up OF KDF Medical Services to the public will support Universal Health Coverage, and provide additional funds to support the hospital’s operations.

The approval of the draft Fund Regulation shall facilitate the establishment, modernisation, operation and maintenance of the facilities, fund research and training to boost the quality of health services offered at the facilities, and finance other important aspects highlighted in the regulation.

Mr Mariru underscored that the public will be able to use medical insurance covers like the NHIF to acquire emergency and referral services, without any discrimination from various KDF health facilities which have been decentralized for easy access.

Also present in the parliamentary session were; Director of Medical Services Maj Gen (Dr) George Nganga, Chief of Medical Services at the Defence Headquarters, Brig (Dr) Atanasias Odhiambo, Chief of Legal Services Brigadier Yvonne Kerubo, MoD Senior Deputy Accountant General Ms. Electina Wanyonyi among others.
