The President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, today, Wednesday 15, December 2021, presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of residential houses for the Kenya Defence Forces in Roysambu, Nairobi.
The project, which is in tandem with the Affordable Housing Pillar of the Government’s Big 4 Agenda, is earmarked to be executed on Build and Transfer basis and shall be implemented through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
The Head of state said that the construction of the new houses is a landmark undertaking that will alleviate the acute housing deficit in various military formations.
“Today marks the first step in the journey of addressing the problem of shortage of houses for our officers in the military,’’ said the President.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, expressed his gratitude to the President and his government for the continuous support accorded to the Ministry of Defence noting that upon completion, the housing project will contribute immensely to the wellbeing of KDF personnel and their families.
The Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi also expressed his appreciation to the President citing that the project will go a long way in ensuring that the KDF are always mission ready to always deliver on their respective mandate.
“I must, on behalf of the entire KDF, thank you Your Excellency for the support and guidance you have given us,’’ noted the CDF.
