PRESIDENT UHURU BREAKS GROUND FOR NEW LEVEL SIX NATIONAL REFERRAL AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL

H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces on Tuesday, 31 Aug 21 led senior government officials and multi-agency troops in a ground-breaking ceremony for the Kenya National Referral and Research Hospital (KNRRH) at Kabete Barracks.

Upon completion the state of the art 700 bed capacity medical facility will serve all security sectors among them the Kenya Defence Force (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS), the National Youth Service (NYS) and their families in line with the Big Four National Agenda of enhancing Universal Healthcare.

Speaking at the event, President Kenyatta said the new facility will offer premium healthcare for all the security agencies who are in the front line to secure the nation.

“This is another milestone in ensuring that those who put their lives on line and in danger to protect their fellow citizens are assured of the best medical care,” said the President.

He added, “It is indeed a proud day for our country, for our security agencies given that this is the first project of this magnitude that has been done since the Armed Forces Memorial Hospital was done in the early 1970s.”

Defence Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Dr. Monica Juma thanked the President for the support saying this will go a long way in ensuring that the security agencies are mission ready to deliver on their respective mandate.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi said that all security agencies were involved in the design of the facility ensuring ownership across the entire security sector.

The facility shall have an oncology centre, medical school complex, oxygen generating plant, the accident and emergency block, mortuary unit among other specialized components.

The event was attended by Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i (Interior and Coordination), Ukur Yatani (National Treasury and Planning) and Mutahi Kagwe (Health), senior KDF and security commanders, Service Members and other invited guests.
