His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, today conducted an inspection tour of the Talanta Sports City construction at Jamhuri Grounds.
Accompanied by government and military leaders, including Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, President Ruto received a detailed briefing on the project from the Ministry of Defence, which is managing the stadium’s development.
Guided by Infrastructure Branch officers from Defence Headquarters, the President toured the stadium site to observe construction progress. He expressed satisfaction with the advancements, affirming his confidence that the stadium will meet its completion deadline of December 2025.
The Ministry of Defence is also supervising renovations at Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium, two additional venues preparing for Kenya’s role in hosting the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in partnership with Tanzania and Uganda under the Pamoja East Africa banner.
Among those present included Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports) and Hon. Salim Mvurya (Investments, Trade, and Industry), Principal Secretaries Eng. Peter Tum (Sports) and Dr. Juma Mukhwana (Industry), Senate Majority Leader Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, Chief of Infrastructure at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Titus Sokobe, and other senior officials.
