PEPFAR EXPLORES POSSIBILITIES OF BOOSTING HEALTH CARE FOR NAROK RESIDENTS

A delegation from USA Department of Defence (USDOD) under the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), visited Narok Forward Operation Base (FOB) on Wednesday, 12th April 2023.

The team, accompanied by the Country Director Dr Benjamin Cutner and the Kenya Defence Force’s (KDF’s) Chief of Medical Brigadier (Dr) Atanasias Odhiambo, is in the process of exploring suitable plans to reach the nomadic/remote population in the country.

The delegation was received by the FOB Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Pius Mukhobi and were briefed on the medical and humanitarian support advanced to the local populace.

Further, the team was briefed on statistics of common ailments, Medical evacuation procedures and shortcomings towards quality medical care to the local community.

During the discussions, Lt Col Mukhobi said that there was need to enhance HIV/AIDS screening and upscale the prevention mechanisms through outreach as was previously done by the Base in collaboration with Narok County Government.

He further made a request to the delegation to establish a medical facility which will supplement the effort of the Base towards serving the local community.

PEPFAR is an organisation that is involved in saving lives, preventing HIV infections, and accelerating progress toward achieving HIV/AIDS pandemic control in more than 50 countries around the world.
