Kenya Defence Forces soldiers operating under ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu’ North Rift in conjunction with NGAO, parents, teachers and pupils of Gathanji Primary School in Kirima Sub County, Laikipia County, took part in a tree planting exercise. The exercise saw over 950 assorted seedlings planted at the school compound.
The tree planting initiative is in line with the Commander-in-Chief’s national tree restoration campaign dubbed National Programme for Accelerated Forestry and Rangelands Restoration aimed at mitigating the devastating effects of climate change.
Speaking during the exercise, the Officer in Charge,Major Felix Mackenzie encouraged the participants and community at large to conserve and take care of the planted seedlings until maturity. He sensitized on the need to join hands all over other regions in achieving the initiative.The locals were also encouraged to continue with the peaceful co existence that has been observed since the launch of the Multi agency operation and also to continue supporting the security agencies in curbing insecurity.
