OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE KITUI COUNTY MILITARY VETERANS CHAPTER

The Chair of the Military Veterans Advisory Committee, Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo led a number of the military veterans in the launch of Kitui County Military Veterans Chapter aimed at bringing services closer to the military personnel who have been honourably discharged from the service.

The Military Veterans Act, Chapter 199A, is an Act of Parliament established for a regulatory and institutional framework for the management of military veterans’ affairs that includes the provision of benefits to veterans and their dependants, establish the Dependants’ Education Fund and also for networking purposes.

Major General (Rtd) Tumbo underscored the commitment of the military to provide welfare services among them, quality medicare, affordable and decent housing, and good education for their children.

Adding that the military leadership is committed by ensuring that the men and women of the Kenya Defence Forces who retire honourably after an illustrious military career are well taken care of in their sunset days.

His statements were echoed by the Patron of the Kitui Military Veterans Chapter, Major General (Rtd) Joseph Kivunzi who thanked the entire military leadership for their unwavering support whenever called upon.

The Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Water and Irrigation Mr. Peter Gitonga who represented Governor Julius Malombe congratulated the veterans for their valuable contribution to the nation during their tenure in the military and even after retirement.

“Though you are retired, you are certainly not tired. You have the ability to serve the nation and the great county of Kitui in other noble capacities,” he said.

Mr. Gitonga said the county shall, from time to time, consult the veterans due to their vast experience in defence and security matters highlighting the global security landscape that calls for concerted effort to counter contemporary threats.

The event was attended by Chaplain Chair Brigadier (Rtd) Fredrick Kimanzi, military veterans drawn from different sub-counties in Kitui County and Senior County Government Officials.
