NEWLY APPOINTED DEPUTY COMMANDER KENYA NAVY ASSUMES OFFICE

The newly appointed Deputy Commander Kenya Navy (D/Comd KN) Brigadier Yahya Abdi has today, 3 May 2023, assumed office in a handover ceremony conducted at the Kenya Navy (KN) Headquarters in Mtongwe, Mombasa.

The changes are part of the recent appointments made by His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces.

During the handover ceremony, the newly appointed D/Comd KN was apprised of the critical roles and requirements of the office in executing the Vision and Mission of KN. He was also briefed on the current strategic Naval engagements in KDF, administrative responsibilities and maritime operational tasks that lie ahead both nationally and regionally.

In his remarks, Brigadier Abdi congratulated the outgoing D/Comd KN for the exemplary work and commitment in serving the KN in different capacities and setting the bar higher. He stated that he will remain steadfast in ensuring that the standards set are improved.

Previously, Brigadier Abdi served as the Commander Kenya Navy Base (KNB), Mtongwe for a period of 18 months.

The outgoing D/Comd KN Brigadier Lawrence Gituma handed over his duties after 38 years of distinguished service to the Republic of Kenya.

Some of critical appointments held by Brigadier Gituma include Commanding Officer Kenya Navy Ship Nyayo, Shujaa and Shupavu, Chief of Operations at KN Headquarters, Base Commander KNB, Manda Bay and Commander Kenya Navy Fleet.
