MOI AIR BASE WINS THE CDF MEN FOOTBALL CUP

Moi Air Base Football team emerged champions of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Football Challenge Cup 2024 after beating Kahawa Garrison team to a solitary goal on extra time at the 81 Tank Battalion at Lanet, Nakuru County.

The first 90 minutes of the game ended in a barren draw, which saw the game going for extra time. MAB team captain Sergeant Salim Mohammed scored the winning goal in the last minute of the extra time.

Kahawa team were runners-up while the Nairobi team settled for third position, having defeated Gilgil by two goals to one in an earlier match.

On behalf of the CDF, Brigadier Peter Kimondio, Deputy Commandant Kenya Military Academy, lauded the winners, the participating teams, and organisers for a successful tournament.

“The teams have showcased their talents with quality football. Those who will be selected to join Ulinzi Stars Football Club, always remember that discipline and dedication are paramount,” said Brigadier Kimondio.

The CDF Cup is held annually and aims to enhance esprit de corps, besides talent spotting for Ulinzi Stars Football Club. This year’s tournament brought together a total of 18 teams.

Also present were Commandant CAU Col Simon Kasura, Commandant SOME Col Peter Wanga, Commanding Officer 23 MIB Lt Col Kabue Rubithia, Officers, Service members and members of the public from Nakuru County.
