MOI AIR BASE HOSTS CHESS TOURNAMENT

On November 6, 2024, Moi Air Base (MAB) organized a chess tournament featuring participants from various Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) regions. The event aimed to promote chess as a valuable tool for enhancing tactical and strategic skills within the KDF. Brigadier Bernard Oluoch, the Base Commander of Moi Air Base, attended as the Chief Guest.

In his remarks, Brigadier Oluoch congratulated the winners and shared his vision of hosting more chess events at the base. “Chess is a game of strategy that strengthens strategic planning abilities, aligning with the KDF’s need to control and coordinate complex operations effectively,” he stated.

The tournament awarded medals to the top players. Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) George Ng’ethe claimed first place, with WO1 Jack Muchera in second, and Ssgt James Isokat in third. Spte Purity Wairimu Mwangi received recognition as the top female participant. Each winner was honored with a medal for their dedication and skill.

The KDF values chess as a tool to cultivate foresight, tactical thinking, and leadership skills, qualities that translate to real-life military operations. Chess helps personnel enhance decision-making, problem-solving, and adaptability, essential for commanding troops.

Among those who attended included Colonel Benedetta Kikech, Commander of Logistics Command; Colonel Simon Buuri, Commander of Helicopter Command; and Lieutenant Colonel Omar Abubakar, MAB CO Sports.
