MALAWI DEFENCE FORCES VISITS THE KENYA NAVY

A delegation from the Malawi Defence Forces (MDF) led by Malawi Air Force Headquarters Inspector General, Colonel Owen Sambalopa, visited Kenya Navy and the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) Mombasa on 08 February 2024 for a benchmarking exercise.

During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call to Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Jimson Mutai at his office during which, talks touching on maritime security strategies, naval operations and naval disaster response strategies were held.

After a presentation on the Roles and Organization of the Kenya Navy at the Maritime Operations Centre, the delegation headed to the Kenya Navy Training College (KNTC), where it was taken on a tour around the College’s Full Mission Bridge Simulator and later witnessed a practical firefighting session at the College’s Fire Fighting Facility.

At the KSL, the delegation was taken through various roles of the Shipyard including ship construction, repair and maintenance, ship refit and conversion among other maritime services. They had an opportunity of witnessing the ongoing mid-life refit of the Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) Nyayo.

Present during the visit was Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Peter Chelimo, Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa and Deputy Commandant KNTC, Lieutenant Colonel Javan Makunda.
