LAIKIPIA AIR BASE SCHOOLS RECEIVE DONATIONS FROM HERNOVATION

The Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amb. Dr. Monica Juma today presided over the handing over of assorted electronic and hygiene items to Laikipia Air Base primary and secondary schools by HerNovation.

HerNovation in partnership with other private sector institutions, under a program by CIO East Africa that offers a platform to nurture and grow women in the IT Leadership, donated the items as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The items included 10 computers from Stepwise, Antivirus solutions from Eset, Sanitary products from Kim-Fay, 1000 pairs of sleepers and 500 pairs of shoes from Ahadi Kenya Trust, a commitment by Huawei Technologies to offer training to the students and additional sanitary facilities for the students secured by Stanbic Bank.

In her speech, the Defence CS expressed her gratitude to HerNovation for the unwavering support saying that women play a major role in enabling a better decision making in companies, hence creating sustainable organizations and increasing annual philanthropic contributions.

“Today, we have begun the journey to influence, shape and extend supporting hands to the younger members of our generation in bid to ensure a socially inclusive world in line with the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) mentoring programme – the Athena,” said the Defence CS.

The Defence CS said that from this gesture, a brighter future is guaranteed for the children through the hands of professional women and men who would wish to continue to see collaboration around CSR programs, with actions stemming from such initiatives such as HerNovation IT donations and inductions.

“I urge women leaders to connect their CSR programs to impact true change, and also to jointly pull together innovative and collaborative culture for realization of real value,” said the Defence CS.

The Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF) Major General Francis Ogolla said that seeing the CS visiting the same school twice in less than five month underscores the importance the MOD attaches to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sponsored schools.

“We are here to support you to ensure that you graduate and achieve your vision and dreams as well as succeed in life,” said Commander KAF.

Present at the event were the CEO, CIO East Africa Mrs. Laura Chite, Laikipia Airbase Commander Brig Bernard Waliaula, CIO, Stanbic Bank Ms Catherine Maraga, Director Huawei Ms Maureen Mwaniki, Channel Manager Eset Mr. Ken Kimani, Laikipia County Director of Education Ms. Susan Murerwa.
