As part of efforts to safeguard coastlines and promote the well-being of marine life and local communities, the Kenya Navy participated in a beach cleanup initiative on 31 August 2024 in Nyali, Mombasa.
The event was led by the Officer Commanding Production and Refit at the Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Mtongwe Dockyard Services, Captain Robert Kiprotich. The exercise highlighted the importance of regular beach clean ups in order to reduce waste accumulation and also to preserve the marine ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, Capt. Kiprotich emphasized the significance of regular beach cleanups in mitigating waste buildup and protecting the marine environment.
“We are honoured to be involved in this initiative, which is essential for protecting our coastlines and the marine life that relies on them. We urge the community to make beach cleaning a regular practice to help maintain a clean and healthy environment for both people and marine life,” he said.
