KENYA NAVY OBSERVES NATIONAL TREE PLANTING DAY

Kenya Navy personnel joined other Kenyans today in observing National Tree Planting Day at Kenya Navy Bases (KNB) Mtongwe, Manda Bay in Lamu and Tudor Creek in Jomvu, Mombasa.

Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, Commander Kenya Navy Fleet (KNF) led a team of KNF personnel in the planting of trees at KNB Mtongwe. Over 2000 trees were planted by KNB Manda personnel led by Brigadier Thomas Ng’ang’a, Commander KNB Manda in collaboration with US soldiers from Camp Simba.

The KNB Mtongwe team led by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel John Mutabari collaborated with Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) and Bidii Creek Conservancy to plant 30,000 mangrove seedlings of Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina species.

The exercise was in response to the government’s appeal to tree planting which sought to help the Commander in Chief achieve his lofty objective of planting 15 Billion trees by 2032.

Trees play an important role in environmental conservation and reduction of environmental degradation.
